Employment trends in 2010 - what to expect in 2011?

in Recruitment

2010 has in fact been another strong year for Morgan Consultancy, reflecting the fact that although business conditions have remained tough, there have also been some great opportunities for entrepreneurial finance directors who have proven that their skills and expertise have never been more in demand. In turn, we have worked closely with an increasing number of both private and listed companies who have recognised the vital contribution of strong financial leadership.

In the wider market, the majority of companies have continued to shed finance staff and thus reduced the size of their finance functions. But for many companies this has not necessarily been a bad thing, having learned the lessons during this recession to operate more efficiently and flexibly. This has typically meant relying on fewer but higher calibre and better trained people.

There has also been an increased trend of interim managers with specific skills and experience being parachuted into companies to deliver key projects and business solutions. We have also experienced an increased demand for entrepreneurial finance directors as management buy-in candidates to turn around distressed businesses and be rewarded hopefully with a profitable stake in the company’s future prosperity.

I sense a renewed confidence and appetite amongst good progressive companies, of all sizes and stages in their development, to achieve growth and exploit new market opportunities; the entrepreneurial finance director will be a key player in this process.
